10 years of local family granting has flown by! Bill Rogers, Founder of the Care Fund and Founder and CEO of Homeowners Financial Group has remarkable community vision. He created a way to pay a family’s mortgage or rent – directly – when a child is seriously ill or injured and parents stand to lose their home.
In 2013, the first statewide grants began to roll out. Bill, a young community leader and mortgage banker, was first in Arizona to make a difficult process into a seamless and highly sought-after grant for families whose children were seriously ill or injured and were facing insurmountable financial hardship. He launched Care Fund with competitors and industry leaders who stood side-by-side and vowed to pledge after learning about the impact that the Care Fund could make on our local families.
“I have two daughters and could never imagine if that happened to our family. When volunteering at Phoenix Children’s Hospital I witnessed young children wanting their parents by their side, but mom and dad had to split their household just to spend time with their seriously ill child and take care of siblings, home, and try to work. Many are reduced to one income. It just didn’t fit,” explains Bill Rogers.
Today, the impact shows more than 1,050 families and nearly $2.8M in funds granted, the Care Fund has grown to be a trusted and award-winning non-profit that hospitals respect and refer. Case workers are the main source of family referrals. They spend precious time learning about the challenges of a child’s sudden illness or long term diagnosis as it relates to the parents ability to continue work, or lose their jobs due to the extensive time needed to care for their child. Once their financials spiral out of control with high medical bills, escalating housing costs and inflation, it’s a difficult decision to make a mortgage or rent payment, or pay for critical medication.
Partners rally for the Care Fund from community groups like The Saguaros, or The Scottsdale Charros, to corporate sponsors like WaFd, Western Alliance Bank, Gila River Resorts & Casinos, Mortensen, Great American Title, Fidelity National Title, 100+ Women Who Care, Schulze Family Foundation, the Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation and many more.
Simply, the Care Fund answers the plea of a child, “I want to go home.”
